When looking for reading glasses, they will usually start at 1.00 and step up in 0.5 diopter to 3.50, you will find a magnificent range from Vision Boutique. We're here to make sure that you can find the right reading glasses, to suit you and your personality.

For many, many years, reading glasses were primarily considered to be a functional item. We firmly believe that you should enjoy your ready readers as a style item, as well as ensuring you have the right reading glasses strength. We have a selection of reading glasses from 1.00 and 1.50 strengths, as well as reading glasses with 2.50 to 3.50 diopter strengths.

To explain these strengths, the eye sees by bending light, and the ability of human eye to bend light is variable from person to person, decreasing with age. This is directly related to the lens' focal length. When the eye is able to bend light better, the eye's focal length is shorter.

When buying reading glasses, it is important to know the eyes focal length. This is measured in diopters. One diopter equals a focal length of one meter, or approximately 40 inches. The human eye has an optical strength of 40 diopters, and can accommodate a focus of 20 diopters; a diopter is the unit of measurement for optical power.

To work out the reading glasses strength, if the diopter of a pair of reading glasses is 1.00, then you can focus on subjects a meter away. For reading glasses with a 1.5, and subsequently a 2.5, diopter the focussing distance is closer. As the eye's ability to focus deteriorates over time, and the diopter lens value increases.

You can find your reading glasses strength by downloading our easy to use eyechart. Simply print off this chart and hold the sheet about 14 inches from your face. Read each line without spectacles, and the first line that you can read clearly has an indicator next to it for the correct lens strength to use.
